Yesterday, the mayor of Nogales Octavio Garcia Von Borstel, who has never held an actual job and whose annual salary as mayor is $50, was arrested on charges of fraud, bribery, and money laundering along with his father. I thought, dude, way to go 0-60 in a nanosecond in the crime superhighway. So, I found that this mayor has always been an arrogant criminal. He wouldn't even take responsibility for a traffic ticket. Rather than just paying the fine and / or going to traffic school after saying he'd take responsibility for it, he hired an attorney (on $50 / year??) to fight it, and then enver showed up. Just scratching the surface we find that this mayor has been under investigation or suspicion forever!
His spending of tax payers money was questioned on more than one occasion (here). The City Council took away his City Credit Card and took away the city-owned Chevy Tahoe! From charges for adult movies in hotels to massive fraud and bribery. This mayor was making his jump to the big time.
What I find odd is that he was ever elected in the first place. He doesn't appear to have any visible means of support beyond his $50 / year salary as mayor. How could the people of Nogales elect such a person? He has no experience at ever meeting a payroll or balancing a budget... oh, wait. Just like our current President.
